The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) held a dialogue session in Aqaba to launch its 22nd Annual Report on the State of Human Rights in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for 2025.
Chairperson of the NCHR Board of Trustees, Samar Al-Haj Hassan, stressed that selecting Aqaba to host this national event was not merely an organizational decision, but rather a reflection of the Board of Trustees’ vision and firm commitment to strengthening the Centre’s field presence across all governorates and reinforcing its vision and mission that human rights are indivisible regardless of geographical location.
She added that this step comes as part of the Board’s policy to strengthen direct engagement with individuals and institutions throughout the Kingdom, in support of the comprehensive modernization and sustainable development process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.
The session brought together representatives of official and local institutions, civil society organizations, the youth sector, universities, and the media. Participants reviewed the report’s key findings, indicators, and recommendations and discussed a number of issues and challenges identified in the report, particularly those related to the southern region.
Al-Haj Hassan noted that the Centre’s reports serve as a national reference for assessing the state of human rights, highlighting positive developments and challenges, and providing specific recommendations that can be measured, implemented, and followed up.
For his part, Commissioner-General for Human Rights Jamal Al-Shamayleh emphasized the importance of moving from fragmented sectoral interventions toward integrated protection and empowerment policies that more effectively link legislation, public policies, and implementation.
The dialogue was moderated by Nael Al-Kabariti, President of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce and member of the NCHR Board of Trustees. Several Board members also contributed to the discussion, addressing participants’ questions, particularly regarding the Centre’s role in protecting and promoting human rights, monitoring the state of rights and freedoms, and the impact of the recommendations contained in its reports.
The discussions also addressed several issues related to the rights of persons with disabilities, women’s rights, and the Centre’s role in conducting studies, receiving complaints, and following them up with the relevant authorities.
At the conclusion of the session, it was noted that the 22nd Annual Report on the State of Human Rights in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is available on the Centre’s website in both Arabic and English.
