Members of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Commissioner-General, headed by Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Samar Al-Haj Hassan, met on Sunday with Aqaba Governor Ayman Al-Awaisheh at the Governorate headquarters to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination and to further consolidate the principles of the rule of law and the protection of human rights and public freedoms.
The meeting was attended by a number of members of the Board of Trustees, executive directors in the Governorate, Aqaba Police Director Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Sawaeer, and Chairman of the Aqaba Governorate Council Musa Al-Dardasawi.
For her part, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights, Samar Al-Haj Hassan, affirmed that the meeting was held within the framework of the Centre’s strategic vision to strengthen its outreach and field presence across the Kingdom’s governorates and to institutionalize direct dialogue and integrated partnerships with stakeholders in the field.
She commended the efforts of the Aqaba Governorate in maintaining security and public safety and in reinforcing stability and the rule of law, stressing that security and safety constitute the fundamental foundation without which rights cannot be protected or human dignity safeguarded.
She added that Aqaba Governorate provides a distinguished model for achieving a balance between law enforcement, the protection of public freedoms, and the promotion of developmental and economic stability.
She noted that, pursuant to its independent legal and oversight mandate, the Centre has conducted 35 field monitoring and inspection visits in the southern region as part of its operational plans, including visits to Aqaba Governorate, to assess the state of public services in the health, education, and environmental sectors.
During the meeting, the Governor of Aqaba and the relevant officials addressed a number of questions and inquiries raised by members of the Centre’s Board of Trustees, providing responses and clarifications as part of an institutional dialogue that covered issues related to the Governorate’s work, services provided to citizens, law-enforcement mechanisms, and the protection of rights and freedoms.
The two sides also discussed mechanisms for strengthening communication and coordination during the coming period and utilizing the Centre’s observations and recommendations to further develop institutional performance, thereby contributing to improved services and the consolidation of human rights principles and the rule of law.
The participants emphasized the importance of continuing field meetings between the Centre and national institutions in a manner that strengthens partnership and integration and provides a platform for direct dialogue, review, and development.
