In light of the occupying entity’s approval of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners in detention, the Center affirms that this law constitutes a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The Center further emphasizes that this law contravenes international standards that guarantee the protection of prisoners and provide a comprehensive legal framework ensuring their right to life, humane treatment, and human dignity, including the four Geneva Conventions.
The Center stresses that the enactment of such a law also contradicts the provisions of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, as these acts amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, thereby necessitating international criminal accountability.
The Center calls on the international community to assume its legal responsibilities and take the necessary measures to prevent the implementation of this law and to ensure the protection of Palestinian prisoners.
In this context, the Center reaffirms Jordan’s firm and unwavering position in standing alongside the Palestinian people, including condemning the issuance of this law, and calls upon the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to confront this law, as stated in the official statement issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
