Tafilah – The National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) concluded a training course in Tafilah Governorate today, marking the completion of a comprehensive program covering all governorates of the Kingdom. A total of 248 male and female lawyers providing legal aid services and legal representation before the courts received training through introductory courses aimed at strengthening their capacities as practicing legal professionals or individuals working in civil society organizations.
The training program was implemented as part of the Legal Aid Project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the Jordan Bar Association, and the Judicial Council, with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the European Union.
Nisreen Zureiqat, Project Director and Commissioner for Promotion at the National Center for Human Rights, stated that the project aims to strengthen lawyers’ capacities by equipping them with the legal knowledge and skills necessary to provide legal aid services. She emphasized that the initiative reflects the Center’s commitment to promoting access to justice and the rule of law.
Zureiqat added that the Center is currently preparing advanced training courses targeting the same participants who completed the introductory courses. These courses are scheduled to take place during November and December across all governorates of the Kingdom.
The advanced training will focus on several topics, including fair trial guarantees, and will draw on the expertise of specialists from Spain, given the country’s leading experience in the field of legal aid.
It is worth noting that all the introductory training courses focused on several key topics, including international human rights conventions, particularly those ratified by Jordan and incorporated into its national legal system.
The courses also aimed to enhance participants’ legal knowledge and develop their professional skills, enabling them to apply the provisions of these international conventions in their legal practice. Additionally, the training provided a platform for dialogue and discussion on legal aid services.
The training courses were delivered by Nisreen Zureiqat and Issa Al-Maraziq, along with Buthaina Freihat, Director of the Department for Groups Most Vulnerable to Violations, and lawyers Omar Bani Mustafa and Khaled Al-Momani.
