Amman – A team from the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR), headed by the Chairperson of the Centre’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Raheel Gharaibeh, and accompanied by several specialized staff members, conducted a monitoring visit to the Muwaqqar (1) Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre.
The NCHR delegation was received by Brigadier General Omar Al-Kasasbeh, Assistant Director of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centres Department; Colonel Montaser Obeidat, Director of the Muwaqqar (1) Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre; and Colonel Raed Abu Awwad.

The team also inspected the Centre’s workshops and inmates’ living quarters and conducted private interviews with a number of inmates.
The visit included discussions on key issues related to the correctional and rehabilitation facility. Dr. Gharaibeh emphasized that the reports issued by the NCHR on correctional and rehabilitation centres are characterized by objectivity and accuracy and are prepared based on direct monitoring visits aimed at identifying challenges and positive developments.
He also highlighted the Centre’s publication of its third periodic report on the conditions of correctional and rehabilitation centres, noting that the report adopts a comprehensive approach and provides integrated recommendations that serve as a roadmap for improving human rights conditions from a human rights-based perspective.
For his part, Brigadier General Al-Kasasbeh stressed that the findings and recommendations resulting from the NCHR’s monitoring visits serve as both a driving force and a guiding framework for further developing correctional and rehabilitation centres and building on national achievements in this field.
At the conclusion of the visit, both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining ongoing coordination and communication to ensure the achievement of their shared objectives and desired outcomes.
