The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Jordan Bar Association held a coordination meeting to discuss ways of strengthening their institutional partnership and expanding areas of cooperation in support of the rule of law, human rights, and public freedoms.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Rizq Shuqairat, Member of the Jordan Bar Association Council and Head of the Freedoms Committee, representing the Bar Association, while the National Centre for Human Rights was represented by Ms. Nesreen Zureikat, Commissioner for Promotion and Awareness, and Mr. Omar Bani Mustafa, Head of the Awareness and Training Unit.
Discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two institutions in a number of key areas, including strengthening lawyers’ capacities to engage with national and international human rights protection mechanisms, promoting a culture of human rights and public freedoms among legal professionals and the wider community, and supporting the rule of law through stronger legal and institutional frameworks.
As an outcome of the meeting, both parties agreed to implement a joint action plan that includes three specialized training programmes for members of the Bar Association’s Freedoms Committee across the Kingdom’s three regions: the North, Central, and South.
The training programmes will focus on enhancing participants’ knowledge of human rights principles and relevant national legislation, while strengthening practical skills in human rights monitoring and documentation, report writing, fair trial guarantees, and handling human rights-related cases.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultation in developing future joint initiatives and programmes that contribute to strengthening the national human rights system and promoting justice and the rule of law in Jordan.
