NCHR Conducts Monitoring Visit to Al-Jafr and Al-Mreigha

As part of its mandate to promote, protect, and monitor human rights, the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) conducted a field monitoring visit to Ma’an Governorate, covering Al-Mreigha Comprehensive Health Centre, Al-Jafr Comprehensive Health Centre, and Al-Jafr Municipality. The visit aimed to assess the situation related to the Bayer quarries, as well as the state of public services, education, and agriculture in the area.
The visit sought to assess the quality of preventive, curative, and primary health-care services provided to residents, evaluate the level of services and infrastructure, and identify the main challenges facing the facilities visited, in line with the rights to health, a healthy environment, and an adequate standard of living.
During the visit, the Centre’s delegation reviewed the workflow at both health centers and examined the mechanisms for delivering health-care services to patients. The delegation also met with local residents to hear their concerns, complaints, and the main challenges affecting access to essential services. The visit also included Al-Jafr Municipality, where the delegation reviewed municipal services related to environmental protection and public health and discussed a number of issues affecting the local community, most notably the Bayer quarries, as well as interruptions to water and electricity services in some areas.
The Centre documented a number of observations and recommendations and will communicate them to the relevant authorities while following up on their implementation. These efforts aim to enhance the quality of health and municipal services and strengthen the enjoyment of economic, social, and cultural rights, particularly the rights to health, a healthy environment, and an adequate standard of living.
This visit forms part of a series of monitoring missions conducted by the National Centre for Human Rights across the Kingdom as part of its ongoing efforts to monitor the human rights situation, strengthen cooperation with relevant stakeholders, and contribute to the development of public policies and services in a manner that promotes the protection of human rights and safeguards the dignity of all citizens.
