The National Centre for Human Rights expresses its appreciation for the directives of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, which emphasized the need to regulate the prices of essential goods and address any unjustified increases that exceed actual costs, in a manner that protects citizens’ rights and promotes fairness in the markets.
The Centre also commends the government’s direction towards taking effective and deterrent measures against violators and commodity hoarders, including the imposition of fines and the closure of non-compliant establishments, given the direct impact of such actions on consumer protection and maintaining price stability.
The Centre notes that it has, during the past period, monitored a number of reports and complaints related to rising prices. These were documented and communicated to the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures, including strengthening oversight and inspection, and continuing to receive complaints from individuals through the designated channels. The Centre further values the government’s response and the measures taken.
The Centre affirms its continued commitment to follow-up, monitoring, and taking the necessary actions in coordination with the relevant stakeholders.
