Statement of Condemnation Issued by the National Centre for Human Rights Regarding the Heinous Terrorist Attack on a Church in the Village of Hamoud, Karak Governorate

Oct 23, 2026

Amman – The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) is following with profound sorrow and grief the Heinous Terrorist that targeted a church in Hamoud Village, Karak Governorate, on Friday, 23 October 2026, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and injuries to others.
The Centre strongly condemns this heinous attack, which claimed innocent lives and violated the sanctity of a place of worship. The NCHR emphasises that such acts constitute a grave assault on the right to life, undermine freedom of religion and worship, and violate human dignity and the values of coexistence, tolerance, and social peace.
The Centre reaffirms that Jordan’s national fabric, firmly rooted in a longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence and solidarity, will remain resilient in the face of attempts to sow division and undermine national unity. The suffering of our fellow citizens in Hamoud Village is a loss felt by the entire nation. Protecting the right to life, freedom of religion or belief, and the sanctity of places of worship is a shared national responsibility.
The NCHR extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and to the Jordanian people as a whole. The Centre prays that the deceased may rest in peace, that their families find strength and solace, and that those injured make a full and swift recovery.
The Centre further emphasises the importance of state institutions fulfilling their responsibilities to safeguard national security and the safety of all citizens, and of ensuring effective investigations in accordance with the law, accountability, and access to justice, while protecting the rights of victims and their families and respecting due process and legal safeguards.
The National Centre for Human Rights reiterates that respect for human dignity, the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and the promotion of citizenship, solidarity, and mutual respect are essential pillars of Jordan’s national unity, security, and stability.
May God protect Jordan and its people and preserve the nation’s security and unity under the Hashemite leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.
