The National Centre for Human Rights conducted an awareness lecture targeting a group of teachers from the Ajloun Directorate of Education, titled: “Integrating Human Rights Concepts into Educational Curricula,”
as part of its legal mandate and continuous efforts to promote and institutionalize a culture of human rights within the education sector across the Kingdom.
During the session, Lawyer Issa Al-Hawawsheh highlighted the Center’s pivotal role in monitoring and following up on the human rights situation in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as its mechanisms for receiving and addressing complaints. He also outlined the Center’s broader work in awareness-raising, education, and capacity building, emphasizing that strengthening human rights knowledge is fundamental to building a more informed and resilient society capable of safeguarding rights and freedoms.
Al-Hawawsheh stressed the importance of systematically integrating human rights concepts into educational curricula, noting that such integration positively shapes students’ behavior and fosters key values such as active citizenship, tolerance, respect for diversity, and the rule of law. He underscored the critical role of schools as foundational environments for shaping awareness and influencing the attitudes of future generations.
The lecture further addressed practical approaches to empowering educators to effectively incorporate human rights principles within classroom settings, linking these concepts to everyday school practices. It also focused on enabling teachers to transform challenges within the educational environment into meaningful learning opportunities that reinforce human rights values among students.
The session witnessed active engagement from participants, including discussions on key challenges related to applying human rights concepts in educational contexts, as well as the exploration of innovative teaching methods and tools to support this integration.
This lecture forms part of a broader series of programs and activities implemented by the Center in cooperation with relevant stakeholders, aimed at enhancing public awareness of human rights and empowering key target groups—particularly educators—as essential partners in building a society grounded in justice, equality, and respect for human dignity.
