National Centre for Human Rights Conducts Monitoring Visit to the Northern Jordan Valley to Assess the Agricultural Sector

Irbid – Within the framework of its legal mandate and ongoing efforts to monitor and follow up on the status of economic and social rights, the National Centre for Human Rights conducted a field monitoring visit to the Northern Jordan Valley District in Irbid Governorate. The visit aimed to assess the realities of the agricultural sector and the extent to which modern technologies—such as advanced irrigation systems, renewable energy, and smart agriculture—are being implemented, particularly in light of growing climate and economic challenges.
The visit revealed a gradual shift toward modernizing agricultural practices and adopting technological solutions. However, this progress continues to face several challenges, most notably water scarcity, limited access to financing, and rising production costs, in addition to the limited spread of advanced agricultural technologies.
The Centre documented key observations and challenges identified during the visit and developed a set of recommendations, which it will formally address to the relevant authorities and follow up on their implementation. This is intended to support the sustainability of the agricultural sector and strengthen the resilience of those working within it.
This visit is part of a series of monitoring missions carried out by the Centre across the Kingdom to assess the status of economic and social rights and to track progress toward achieving relevant Sustainable Development Goals.
