Panel Discussion at Isra University on Political Party Life and the Promotion of Human Rights

Amman – The National Centre for Human Rights organized, on Wednesday, 29 April, a specialized panel discussion at Isra University on political party life in Jordan and the promotion of the human rights system. The event brought together a number of officials and experts and was attended by university students as well as members of the academic and administrative staff.
The session was opened by Professor Dr. Samer Al-Ali, President of the University, who welcomed the guest delegation and emphasized the importance of such dialogue sessions in enhancing students’ awareness of national issues and promoting the values of effective political participation.
For his part, Jamal Al-Shamayleh, Commissioner General for Human Rights, reviewed key national efforts in the field of human rights, highlighting the progress achieved in Jordan under the significant attention given by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to advancing political reform and empowering youth.
Dr. Mohammad Al-Tarawneh, Member of the Board of Trustees, addressed the current state of political party life in Jordan, noting that the current phase is witnessing qualitative transformations aimed at expanding political participation, particularly among youth and university students.
The session was moderated by Ms. Nasreen Zreikat, Commissioner for Promotion, who facilitated an interactive dialogue with students. Participants raised a number of questions and inquiries, which were addressed directly and transparently by the speakers.
In the same context, Lawyer Rami Al-Hashem, Head of the National Legislation Unit, delivered an analytical presentation on the Political Parties Law No. (7) of 2022 and the regulations governing student political activities, outlining key safeguards and challenges related to activating political party work within universities.
Lawyer Omar Bani Mustafa also presented the role of the National Centre for Human Rights in protecting and promoting human rights, stressing the importance of partnerships with academic institutions in spreading and embedding a culture of human rights among youth.
At the conclusion of the session, commemorative shields were exchanged between both parties in appreciation of the efforts made to ensure the success of the event and to further strengthen frameworks of mutual cooperation, as part of the activities of the Promotion Commissionerate / Legislation Department.
