The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) underscores the significance of the election of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term, having secured 171 votes. This outcome reflects international confidence in Jordan’s role, its steadfast positions on human rights issues, and its standing as an active partner in supporting the international human rights system and strengthening international cooperation in this field.
The Centre affirms that this election represents an important achievement for Jordan, reflecting its influential presence in international forums and its role in raising human rights issues at both the regional and international levels, as well as defending fundamental human rights and freedoms.
The Centre further notes that this achievement comes within the context of Jordan’s active engagement in international affairs, particularly the positions expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah II in his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2026. In his address, His Majesty emphasized the importance of upholding international law, rejecting injustice and double standards, and defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their rights to freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
In this context, the National Centre for Human Rights expresses its pride in this national achievement in the field of human rights and its hope that Jordan’s membership in the Human Rights Council will contribute to strengthening joint international efforts to protect human rights, safeguard human dignity, and uphold the principles of justice, equality, and non-discrimination.
