Speaker of the House of Representatives Meets Chairperson and Members of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights and Affirms Support for Its Recommendations

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mazen Al-Qadi, received today, Sunday, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights, Samar Haj Hassan; the Vice Chairperson, Professor Khaldoun Al-Nusour; the Chair of the Civil and Political Rights Committee, Dr. Mohammad Al-Tarawneh; the Chair of the Committee on Groups Most in Need of Protection, Dr. Reem Abu Dalbouh; the Vice Chair of the Economic and Social Rights Committee, Ms. Naifah Al-Zoubi; and the Centre’s Commissioner General, Jamal Al-Shamayleh.

Al-Qadi stated that the Centre plays an important role in assessing the national human rights situation, stressing that the House of Representatives gives full attention to the Centre’s reports. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr. Khamis Atiyeh; the Second Deputy Speaker, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sarayreh; the Chair of the Public Freedoms and Human Rights Committee, MP Raed Al-Zahrawi; the Chair of the Legal Committee, MP Arif Al-Suaideh; and MP Mohammad Al-Mara’ieh.
Al-Qadi added that the House of Representatives prioritizes the file of human rights and public freedoms in a manner that reflects the Kingdom’s efforts in this area and strengthens the human rights system and the rule of law.

The Speaker of the House affirmed that the Council, through the Parliamentary Committee on Public Freedoms and Human Rights, will study the Centre’s reports, attach great importance to its recommendations, and follow up on the observations therein in compliance with the Royal directives in this regard.
For her part, Haj Hassan affirmed that today’s meeting between the Centre and the House of Representatives underscores the partnership-based relationship with the House, noting that this cooperation will be built upon to develop a joint vision between the two parties on mechanisms for enforcing the recommendations of the Centre’s annual reports and incorporating them into the Council’s legislative and oversight outputs.
Haj Hassan also stated that the Centre is keen on the continuity and sustainability of cooperation with the House of Representatives, adding that the meeting sought to develop a joint vision for mechanisms of cooperation on laws and issues with a human rights dimension, as well as the follow-up of citizens’ complaints received by the House of Representatives through the tools and mechanisms adopted by the Centre, with the aim of ending violations of human rights and public freedoms in the Kingdom through the various means stipulated in the Centre’s Law.

She further emphasized the importance of the Centre’s participation in meetings of the House’s specialized committees to discuss and present the Centre’s recommendations on draft laws submitted to the House of Representatives, as well as organizing periodic meetings between the Centre and the relevant parliamentary committees according to clear timelines and specific performance indicators, through specialized sessions to prioritize actions, thereby ensuring the enhancement of the human rights situation in the Kingdom.
